The Direct Manufacturing Research Center deals with additive manufacturing methods - an important future technology. The essential advantages are reduced production costs and legal costs, shorter processing time and a realisation of more complicated component geometry. The introduction of AM technologies will cause a revolution in the area of construction.
The syndicate of the DMRC at the university of Paderborn consists of 15 companies Blue Production GmbH, The Boeing Company, Wilhelm Eisenhuth GmbH, EOS GmbH Electro Optical Systems, Evonik Industries AG, H&H Gesellschaft für Engineering und Prototypenbau GmbH, Janson & Even GmbH, The Lego Group, Liebherr-Aerospace GmbH, PHOENIX CONTACT GmbH & Co. KG, REMBE GMBH SAFETY + CONTROL, Siemens AG, SLM Solutions GmbH, Stratasys Inc. and Stükerjürgen Aerospace Composites GmbH.
The members have the common interest to develop the new manufacturing methods to real production procedures, the so-called Direct Manufacturing. North Rhine-Westphalia has agreed to invest up to 5.5 millions € in order to contribute to our research. Until the year 2016 there are up to 11 millions € available for the DMRC, with which they fund projects which illustrate the whole process from research up to the finished product. Meanwhile, 11 professors and 25 scientific employees are doing research on projects, which are practically relevant and close to industry. The research subjects are splited up.
