Besides Professor Kenig, the scientific assistants Nicole Lutters, René Bertling, Lukas Bolenz, Mike Bothe, Christian Wecker and Marc Wende as well as our former co-worker Alexander Salten took part. In a total of six talks they presented the current research work in the field of fluid process…
(University of Paderborn, Jennifer Strube): Prof. Dr. Johannes Blömer (left), Vice President for Research and Young Scientists, awarded the prizes for outstanding dissertations (from left to right): Dr. Dominik Gutt, Dr. Carina Witte, Dr. Johannes Späth, Dr. Johanna Sackel and Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Rieks
Our former colleague Sebastian Rieks received the prize for outstanding dissertations at the New Year's Reception of the University of Paderborn on January 19. The prize is awarded by the Presidential Board of the University and is endowed with 2,000 Euros. Sebastian worked at the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering between 2014 and 2017 and received his doctorate in 2018 on the topic "Modelling and numerical simulation of coupled transport…
On November 7th to 8th, Prof. Kenig and Venkatesh Inguva visited KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden to participate in the ENFLOW project kick-off meeting with industrial partners GasQual AB and Inoson GmbH. Discussions about designing an ultrasonic gas quality meter took place and Venkatesh Inguva presented the capabilities of computational fluid dynamics to help in solving the project tasks.
With deep sadness, we learned of the death of our colleague Franz Kapla. He passed away on November 6th, 2019, after a long and serious illness. Franz Kapla started working as a technician at Paderborn University in 1987, and over time, he became an expert in the field of Fluid Process Engineering. His activities ranged from supporting PhD students in the conception and design of experimental plants to the conducting of individual projects. He…
Prof. Kenig and Matti Grabo participated in the 22nd Conference on Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction (PRES'19) which took place from October 20 to 23 in Agios Nicolaos, Crete, Greece. Matti Grabo presented his results from the SoLife project in a presentation entitled "Numerical Investigation of the Temperature Distribution in PCM-integrated Solar Modules".
Last week, the chair visited the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. At the Departamento de Engenharia Química (Department of Chemical Engineering), we were welcomed by Prof. Maria Matilde Soares Duarte Marques, who presented the extensive research activities of the department. This was followed by two lectures held by Portuguese phd students and a tour through the laboratories and pilot plants of the department. After a joint lunch break,…
On 19 and 20 September 2019, the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering at the University of Paderborn and the Department of Technical Thermodynamics at the University of Kassel organized the workshop "Heat Transfer with Phase Change in Fluid Systems: An update". The topic is important from both an academic and an industrial point of view. Participants from all over Germany came to Paderborn to present and discuss their research topics.
The…
Prof. Kenig and René Bertling visited Sulzer Chemtech AG in Winterthur, Switzerland to discuss the results of our ongoing cooperation. The subject of the common research is the investigation of fluid dynamics in structured packings. Prof. Kenig presented the chair and its research activities while René Bertling held a presentation titled "Investigation of multiphase flow on structured surfaces using CFD-methods". We are now looking forward to…
The Press and Communication Office at Paderborn University has published a communication about the internationality of the staff at the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering. We are pleased about the interest and would like to refer you to the article.

Our Chair congratulates Anna Große Daldrup who successfully awarded her doctorate on August 29th, 2019. The title of her dissertation is “Modelling of fluid dynamics and seperation performance of viscous mixtures in packed columns based on tomographic investigation”.
A presentation of her thesis took place in the presence of colleagues, friends and family. Afterwards she defended her thesis successfully in front of the scientific jury.
From…
Last monday, the chair of Fluid Process Engineering together with about 30 students was on a field trip to visit Evonik AG in the chemical park in Marl. Beside insights into the work routine of a process engineer, we got a guided tour through the technical labs, did a round trip through in the chemcial park and finally visited the acrylic acid plant, which is the largest production plant in the park. Many thanks to Mrs Lührmann of Evonik AG for…
Prof. Kenig and Lukas Bolenz attended the 14th International Conference on Chemical and Process Engineering that took place from May 26 to 29 in Bologna, Italy. Lukas Bolenz presented a poster entitled "Liquid flow morphology of viscous systems in structured packings: investigations by X-ray tomography".
On the 2nd of April, a group of our chair took part in the workshop "Current Topics on Packed Columns" in Liège, Belgium. Together with researchers and representatives from industry from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, we discussed current research topics in the field of packed columns. Our staff member Lukas Bolenz held a presentation with the title "Experimental and theoretical investigation of fluid dynamics in structured…
Prof. Kenig and Dr. Lutters together with Lukas Bolenz, Mike Bothe, Steve Flechsig and Alexander Salten participated in the annual meeting of the ProcessNet groups Fluidverfahrenstechnik und Membrantechnik (fluid process engineering and membrane technology). The meeting took place on March 27th to 29th 2019 in the Dorint Hotel Sanssouci in Potsdam. Steve Flechsig held an oral presentation titled "Partial use of partially flooded packages" and…
