Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detmar Zimmer
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detmar Zimmer, born in 1958, held the chair of "Design and Drive Technology" from 2001 to 2021.
Following his studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart, the Stuttgart native received his PhD in 1990 at the local Institute of Machine Design and Gear Manufacturing. He received the advancement award of the Gesellschaft für Tribologie (GfT) for his dissertation "Backlash-oriented adjustment of the hypoid and bevel gear". From 1990 to 2001 he was employed by Lenze, heading the department “Development of gear motors” as the authorized signatory for the latter of those years.
Prof. Zimmer is member of the "Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft für Produktentstehung (WiGeP)" (Scientific association for product development), which was established in 2011 following the fusion of the "Berliner Kreis" (Berlin Circle) with the Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft für Maschinenelemente, Konstruktionstechnik und Produktentwicklung (wgmk) (Scientific association for machine elements, design technology and product development).
From 2008 to 2011, he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and responsible for the cooperation between Paderborn University and the Chinese-German Technical Faculty (CDTF) in Qingdao, China.
