Career and development at NIWI
We are convinced that the complex challenges of sustainable transformation can only be solved with the best and most committed minds. At our young chair, we therefore see it as a central task not only to find talent, but also to actively promote it and give it room to develop. We offer a scientific environment in which curiosity is rewarded, interdisciplinarity is practised and the foundations for a successful career in science or industry are laid.
Putting theory into practice
The best way to shape the industrial future is to start early. We actively involve students in our current research and offer them the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to real-world problems.
- Student theses:
We continuously assign topics for Bachelor's and Master's theses in our core fields - from the circular economy to AI-supported energy systems. Contribute your own ideas or work on one of our pioneering research projects. - Working as an SHK/WHB:
As a research assistant, you are a fully-fledged member of our team. You will not only support us in teaching and organisation, but also gain direct insights into project work and learn how to use modern scientific tools and methods.
Your development as a doctoral candidate or postdoc
A doctorate or a postdoc phase at the NIWI is more than just a research project. It is the decisive step towards developing your own scientific identity and positioning yourself as an expert in one of the most important fields of the future.
- Research with impact:
You work on highly innovative topics with direct relevance for society and industry. Our strong network within KET and ILH offers an ideal interdisciplinary environment. - Support and freedom:
We actively support you in participating in international conferences, in your publication projects and give you the freedom to pursue and develop your own research ideas. - Career prospects:
We see ourselves as a springboard for your future career. We support the development of your network and prepare you specifically for leadership roles in academia (e.g. by teaching, supervising students) or for challenging positions in industry.
