ItsOWL-Heatpipe
ItsOWL-Heatpipe is an innovation program within the scope of the research cluster “it’s OWL”, which aims to develop a self-regulating, passively operating thermo-management system for electric vehicles. It will adapt itself autonomously to distribute generated excess thermal energy according to the demand. This is achieved on the one hand via a loop heat-pipe, whose concept allows for self-regulated heat transfer and on the other hand via passively operating actuators. The efficiency enhancement will be demonstrated by a test vehicle equipped with such a thermo-management system. The main objective in this project is a technological development, which increases the vehicle’s overall efficiency by 2-4% in contrast to the unmodified vehicle, as defined by the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
