Prof Julia Riese gave the inaugural lecture on the topic: "Solutions for a changing process industry"

On 4 September 2025, another event in the "Mechanical Engineering Forum" series took place in lecture hall L2 at Paderborn University. Prof Dr Julia Riese, who has held the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering since 2023, gave a lecture on the transformation of the process industry as part of her inaugural lecture.

The event centred on the question of how energy-intensive industrial processes can be made fit for the future against the backdrop of increasing sustainability requirements and the growing importance of renewable energies. Prof. Riese presented innovative approaches to reducing process-related emissions and emphasised the relevance of flexible operating strategies and the electrification of process steps. She paid particular attention to the cross-scale approach - from individual phenomena to complex plant networks.

The event was attended by numerous guests. Among the participants were representatives from the Ruhr University Bochum, where Prof Riese had previously studied, completed his doctorate and habilitated. The lecture was followed by a reception, which provided an opportunity for personal dialogue and professional networking.

The event is part of the established "Forum Mechanical Engineering" series, with which the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Paderborn University focuses on current research topics, new professors and dialogue with the specialist public.
