In our courses "Hazard prevention and emergency management" and "Information management for public safety and security", we not only deal with the topics theoretically at university, but also look at their implementation in real life.
The excursion to the Dortmund fire department provided a good opportunity to understand the complex interrelationships and ask the rescuers lots of questions.
After being welcomed by Chief Fire Officer Dirk Aschenbrenner, we went to the staff room and control center of the Dortmund fire department, where all the threads and information come together. We then visited the training center and felt the heat of a training fire first hand. Finally, the analytical task force showed us their special equipment for the detection and determination of nuclear and chemical hazardous substances.
For the participants of the excursion, it was an all-round exciting day and a successful conclusion to the course.
