The project award of the European Research Association for Sheet Metal Processing e.V. (EFB) was presented for the first time by EFB President Dipl.-Ing. Klaus Linnig (Schuler Pressen GmbH) at a digital conference due to the pandemic. The EFB Project Award was presented for the 12th time this year. Since 2010, more than 45 young engineering scientists have been honored for their outstanding scientific and technical work on and completion of an EFB project.
The EFB Project Award 2020 goes to Mr. Per Heyser (LWF) and Mr. Marcel Droß (IWF, TU Braunschweig). Mr. Heyser has been working as a research associate at LWF in the Mechanical Joining Technology group since 2018. He received the EFB Project Award 2020 for the project "Development of a joining element with integrated structured mold section" (19153N, EFB Research Report 518). In this collaborative project together with the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology (IWF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig, an innovative pin-structured auxiliary joining element was successfully developed, which leads to a significant increase in the load-bearing capacity of mechanically joined joints between metal and fiber-plastic composites (FRP).
