On the evening of September 23, 2022, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering opened its doors to visitors of all ages and offered an insight into the world of mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn and beyond with the help of numerous booths. The individual chairs and subject groups as well as study initiatives welcomed a large number of students from higher grades, adults, but also younger and older children. In addition to the challenges of mechanical engineering, about which visitors could learn a lot, not least through exciting activities and workshops, those interested in studying were shown the possibility of obtaining information about individual courses of study.
The Laboratory for Materials and Joining Technology (LWF) was pleased to take part in the event and offered information on joining technology in general and on the research projects and courses of the LWF in particular at its own booth. Especially for the younger event visitors, however, the most exciting activities were the partial bodywork, which presented several joining processes, and the opportunity to join sheet metal themselves using clinch hand tongs. After a short briefing, numerous clinch joints were made under supervision and with great enthusiasm.
