Participation of LWF at the 13th Doctoral Seminar on Adhesive Bonding Technology in Blankenburg (Harz)

On 05. and 06.10.2022 the annual PhD student seminar on adhesive bonding technology took place for the 13th time. The Technical University of Braunschweig invited to the premises of the monastery Michaelstein, where eight PhD students from six universities and Fraunhofer institutes met together with their professors and group leaders. The LWF was represented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerson Meschut and the research assistants Marius Striewe and Karina Tews.

During the two-day event, the doctoral students presented their research results on adhesive bonding technology and offered a balanced and interesting program with basic and application-oriented topics. The doctoral seminar opened with a presentation on the investigation and calculation of the service life of bonded steel joints. Subsequently, results on the behavior of bonded joints in cryogenic environments were presented. The first day of the event concluded with a presentation on the influence of bio-based additives on the dynamic material behavior of structural adhesives.

The second day of the event also included many exciting research topics. It began with the presentation of results on the subject of property changes and stress formation in curing adhesives. This was followed by presentations on the stencil pressure of adhesive-based seals for fuel cells and on the experimental and numerical investigation of the influence of variable operating temperatures on the load-bearing and failure behavior of structural bonded joints with regard to crash loading.

The lively discussions with the renowned experts during the two days generated valuable impulses for the further work of the PhD students. In addition to the technical exchange, the doctoral seminar continued to offer the opportunity to get to know each other on a personal level in order to strengthen existing ties between the universities and Fraunhofer institutes and to establish new contacts.
