Development of dissipation reduced shaft sealing systems

Currently, shafts that have to be sealed in a housing to prevent leakage of the lubricant are predominantly sealed by radial shaft seals. Radial shaft seals are contact seals that are – due to friction – subject to a relatively high dissipation and signs of wear, both of which reduce their lifetime. This project is aimed at developing a system that statically and dynamically seals an engine shaft in a low wear manner, with a long lifetime and low dissipation.
