Chair of Design and Drive Technology (KAt) participates in VDI certificate seminar “Additive Manufacturing Specialist”

In cooperation with the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC), the Chair of Design and Drive Technology (KAt) participates in the training of engineers in the field of additive manufacturing. The "Specialist Engineer Additive Manufacturing VDI" is a practice-oriented qualification developed by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) in collaboration with experts from the additive manufacturing industry. It includes the attendance of seven seminar modules and concludes with a VDI certificate examination and a recognized certificate. This qualification training course is aimed at getting an overview of the entire process of additive manufacturing: from selecting the component to deciding on the production type and design to finally implementing additive manufacturing in the company.

Eight participants of the VDI seminar, managed by Dr. Ing. Stefan Bindl (EOS GmbH) and Dr. Ing. Christian Lindemann (DMRC), visited the DMRC in Paderborn in order to explore the field of design for additive manufacturing in detail. During the two-day course "Design for additive manufacturing", Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detmar Zimmer and Tobias Lieneke lectured on the potentials and restrictions of additive manufacturing. The addressed topics of conception and design as well as the achievable manufacturing accuracies were competences of the KAt. Dr.-Ing. Christian Lindemann and Thomas Reiher, both at the Chair Computer Application and Integration in Design and Planning (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Koch)presented research results on costs and topology optimization . The seminar content was consolidated by industrial applications and insights into the DMRC laboratory.

In addition to the design experts of Paderborn University, experts from the fields of metal, plastics and industrial implementation throughout Germany are participating in the VDI seminar.
