Going into its third year, the Chair of Design and Drive Technology has been offering the “Basic principles of gear assembly – practical course” since the winter semester of 2013/14.
It addresses mechanical engineering students in their first semesters and is intended to not only teach them hands-on experience with the assembly of gears, but also make them aware of the direct connection between 2D drawings and real components – one mistake in the assembly and the gears don’t move the way they are supposed to.
The practical has proven to be a useful addition for various other mechanical engineering courses. Participation is voluntary; students have to pay only a small fee.
