Visit to the Dortmund fire brigade: Insights into disaster control

On a sunny Friday in the summer semester, students from our "Hazard prevention and emergency management" and "Information management for public safety and security" lectures visited the Dortmund fire brigade. After a warm welcome and an introduction to the Dortmund Fire Brigade, civil protection and their own preparedness for disasters, the students were able to visit the staff room and control centre of the Dortmund Fire Brigade.

Another highlight of the visit was the tour of the training centre and the Analytical Task Force (ATF). The ATF is a specialised unit that works with the other seven locations across Germany to provide protection in the event of nuclear, biological or chemical emergencies and has special equipment and expertise at its disposal. The visit gave our students a valuable insight into the work of the Dortmund fire brigade and the importance of disaster control.
