The 23rd International Conference on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM 2026) took place in Lecce, Italy, from 6 to 8 July 2026.
Finn Budde was a participant at the conference on behalf of the DMB specialist group and presented the paper ‘An Edge-AI Interface Enabling Low-Latency Object Detection in Augmented Reality for Visual Quality Inspection’. The focus was on integrating AI-based object detection into an augmented reality application to support visual quality inspection. In particular, the research examined how local processing directly on an AR device can enable responsive object detection without the need for cloud-based inference.
In addition to presenting his own paper, PLM 2026 provided an opportunity to discuss current research topics at the interface between data management, artificial intelligence, product development and production. The conference thus provided a forum not only for discussing our own research findings but also for generating new ideas for the application of digital technologies in product lifecycle management.
