Machining (Lecture)
Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Homberg
Type of event: Lecture
Organisation unit: Mechanical Engineering
Display in timetable: SF
Language of instruction: German
Min. | Max. Number of participants: - | -
Prerequisites and recommendations:
Lectures of the basic mechanical engineering programme
Course objective:
Students are given an introduction and basic knowledge of machining technology. They are also familiarised with the most important processes, their working methods and typical applications. Students will also gain an overview of cutting tools, cooling and lubrication as well as common machine tools. Accordingly, they will be able to select suitable cutting processes, cutting tools, clamping devices and corresponding machine tools for production-related issues and categorise them based on their properties, such as cost-effectiveness, accuracy, environmental impact and sustainability. Special competences are acquired in the field of surface adjustment for turning, milling and grinding.
Target group:
Students specialising in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and teaching.
Content:
The lecture on machining provides an overview of machining technology. The basics of the department are taught as an introduction and the most important processes in machining technology and their areas of use and possible applications are presented. Topics such as tools, cooling lubricants and clamping devices are also covered. The lecture covers the following topics in particular:
- Fundamentals of machining
- Turning and hard turning
- Milling, drilling and reaming
- Grinding
- Honing and lapping
- Ablation
- Cooling lubrication during machining
- Cutting tools
- Cutting machines
- High-speed cutting
