We have replaced our existing strip drawing test rig with a completely newly developed system. It is used for tribological characterization, i.e. for determining coefficients of friction between sheet metal and tooling under defined and reproducible conditions. The resulting characteristic values provide an important basis for the design and optimization of forming processes, particularly deep drawing.
We are especially proud that the entire test rig was designed and built in-house, from the initial concept through to commissioning.
With the new system, we can perform tests with a normal force of up to 15 kN and a drawing force of up to 25 kN. The drawing speed can be adjusted from 10 to 100 mm/s, allowing us to reproduce and compare different process conditions in a controlled manner. This enables us to investigate the frictional behavior of different combinations of materials, lubricants, and surface conditions, providing a sound basis for reliable assessment of the tribological system.
