Final Theses
In the student research project, students should demonstrate that they are able to work on an engineering problem under supervision using scientific methods and present the results in a clear and understandable way. Students have the opportunity to propose a topic for the student research project. Academic staff or university assistants should be involved in supervising the student research project. Student research projects can also be carried out in another department of the university or at an institution outside the university.
The Bachelor's thesis and the Master's thesis are examinations designed to show that the student is able to work independently on a problem using scientific methods within a given period of time. Under certain circumstances, the work may also be authorised in the form of group work. The topic and assignment must be such that the work can be completed within the specified deadline. The topic of the Bachelor's thesis is issued by the Chairperson of the Examination Board. The examiner responsible for supervising the thesis will specify this. The candidate must be given the opportunity to make suggestions for the topic of the Bachelor's thesis. The workload for the Bachelor's thesis is generally 360 hours.
The written part of the Bachelor's thesis must be completed within 20 weeks. The topic of the Master's thesis is issued by the Chairperson of the Examination Board. The examiner responsible for supervising the thesis will specify this. The candidate must be given the opportunity to make suggestions for the topic of the Master's thesis. The workload for the Master's thesis is generally 660 hours. It must be completed within a period of 6 months. A colloquium on the topic of the thesis and its results is held no later than four weeks after submission of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis. The colloquium is part of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis and is included in its assessment. It lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The project work, student research project, Bachelor's thesis and Master's thesis can also be written in conjunction with industrial companies.

The workload for the dissertation is 12 credit points plus 3 credit points for the final presentation of the dissertation. The written part of the Master's thesis comprises 22 credit points (660 hours) and must be completed within 6 months. At the end of the Master's thesis, there is a colloquium (3 credit points) on the topic of the Master's thesis and its results.
The Bachelor's thesis is an examination paper that concludes the vocational Bachelor's programme. The workload for the written part of the Bachelor's thesis is 12 credit points and 3 credit points for the associated colloquium. The written part of the Bachelor's thesis comprises 360 working hours and must be completed within a period of 20 weeks. Only students who have successfully completed all modules of the foundation degree programme can be admitted to the Bachelor's thesis.
