Do you have a good to very good degree in a degree programme at a scientific university, have developed a passion and curiosity for your subject and are capable of careful scientific work? Then you fulfil the most important requirements for a doctorate at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering!
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering awards the degree of Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) on the basis of a doctoral procedure in which you demonstrate your special scientific knowledge and skills in your doctoral subject.
In addition to the individual doctorate, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also offers doctorates in a structured doctoral programme. Further information on the structured doctoral programme can be found here. In both constellations, the doctoral procedure is based on the applicable doctoral regulations.
International candidates interested in a doctorate are very welcome! All regulations for the doctoral procedure at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering can be found here.
If you intend to obtain a doctorate in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, you can submit an application to the Doctoral Committee to have the doctoral requirements determined. This application must state your academic background, the topic and working title of your planned doctoral dissertation as well as the expected completion time and the name of your supervisor. The doctoral committee decides in consultation with the supervisor. A written decision will be issued on the result of the examination to determine whether you fulfil the doctoral requirements.
You can find a graphic overview of the doctoral programme at our Faculty here.
In addition, participation in at least one graduate workshop is obligatory. Workshops of this kind are offered by the Graduate Centre at least once a year and must be accepted during the second year of employment. Each student presents their own research areas, which are then discussed and reflected upon with other academic staff.
