Info for First-Year Students
Hello dear first-year students,
Welcome to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Paderborn University. How nice that you are here! To ensure an optimal start to your studies, we would like to ask you to take part in the introductory events during the orientation phase so that you can get off to a good start with us!
Orientation Phase:
The orientation phase, which is organised by the student councils and various members of staff, is designed to give you a first insight into university life. We try to show you the most important institutions of the university and explain to you when you have to do what. The more complicated things, such as registering for courses, will be organised together with you. Therefore, we can only warmly recommend that you take part in the orientation phase if you can somehow manage it. Of course, we also try to take away some of your fear of everything that is new. On the other hand, it is also important to strengthen the feeling of togetherness. You will not be able to cope with everyday university life on your own, you need study groups in the introductory phase which we organise to help new students starting their Bachelor's degree in the winter semester. And of course you also want to go out partying with your fellow students. Our aim is to prepare you as well as possible for your time at university.
When you start a Master's degree programme, you will immediately have to make many decisions about your study profile, and our specialisation advisors will help you with this. They offer consultation hours at the Student Service Office of our faculty.
