Maternity protection for students

This page serves as orientation and navigation for pregnant and breastfeeding students with regard to the regulations of the Maternity Protection Act as amended on 23 May 2017.

It cannot be ruled out that there may be health risks for you or your unborn child during your studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This could be the case in particular during work placements, workshop or laboratory activities or excursions.

Once you have informed us of your pregnancy, a risk assessment must be carried out so that hazards can be recognised and appropriate protective measures can be taken. This will be carried out by the responsible contact at our faculty in consultation with you and the responsible department for occupational safety, health and environmental protection at the university.

You have the opportunity to notify the university of your pregnancy using a forms. This is in your interest and serves to fulfil the protective regulations of the Maternity Protection Act. In addition, you can use the form to apply for reimbursement of the costs of issuing the pregnancy certificate and explicitly declare that you waive the protective provisions of the Maternity Protection Act with regard to examinations if you wish to take examinations during the period of maternity protection.

There are various potential hazards for pregnant women within the scope of the degree programme. The risk assessments of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering can be found here.

An additional document summarising all hazards of the groups with corresponding equipment and rooms etc. can be found here.
