68th Plenary Assembly of the FTMV in Hamburg

On 11 and 12 July 2019, 43 delegates and guests of the Faculty Association for Mechanical and Process Engineering (FTMV) met at the TU Hamburg. Prof. Brinksma, President of the TU Hamburg, welcomed the delegates and guests. Prof. Fiedler, as Dean of Studies, then presented the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with some developments of the last few years. Prof. Moritzer thanked them and the delegate of the Faculty of TU Hamburg, Prof. Schüppstuhl, for hosting the 68th Plenary Assembly of the FTMV.

In addition to relevant contributions such as the presentation of the National Research Data Infrastructure for Engineering (NFDI4ING) and the guest reports from 4ING & the DHV, among others, this year's plenary assembly focused on the subject of "Digitisation in Engineering Education". Prof. Anderl from TU Darmstadt gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Effects of digitalisation on teaching content in mechanical engineering" and showed that both teaching content of digitalisation and digital tools for teaching content are already available in great variety in the faculties. RWTH Aachen (Prof. Kneer) and TU Munich (Prof. Wachtmeister) then presented examples of digital methods in teaching in general. Digital teaching methods such as smartphone apps with exercise questions are available and are made available to students for exam preparation, among other things. The FTMV will continue to work on the topic of digitalisation in engineering education in the coming year.

The 69th plenary assembly will be a joint 4ING assembly and will take place on 09 and 10 July 2020 in Wuppertal.
