Plastics engineers from Paderborn at Technomer 2019 in Chemnitz

Technomer took place for the 26th time in Chemnitz from 07 to 08 November. The conference venue was the Technical University in Chemnitz. The conference is organised by the Institute for Materials Handling and Plastics at Chemnitz University of Technology, the Plastics Centre in Leipzig and the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden. There, numerous engineers presented around 100 papers on their projects, innovations and research results.

At this get-together, Kunststofftechnik Paderborn (KTP) was represented by Dr.-Ing. Kim Westhues, Tobias Westhues, Jannik Jilg and Hatice Malatyali.

The scientists from Paderborn gave technical presentations on the following topics:

  •     Development of a model for calculating the initial melting processes in co-rotating twin-screw extruders (Dr.-Ing. Kim Westhues).
  •     Approach for the description of irregularly joined plastic filaments in random mat structures under mechanical load (Tobias Westhues)
  •     Simulation and modelling of pressure drop in polymer melt filters (Dr.-Ing. Kim Westhues)
  •     On the effect of strain flow inducing injection nozzles for glass fibre reinforced polypropylene in the special process of direct injection moulding compounding (SGDC) (Jannik Jilg, Poster)
  •     Influence of different temperature settings and screw geometries on the thermal homogeneity and process behaviour of high-speed rubber extruders (Daniel Stüker, presented by Jannik Jilg)
  •     Investigation of the dosing behaviour of carbon fibre recyclates for use in co-rotating twin screw extruders (Hatice Malatyali)
