Excursion to Heggemann AG

On 12 June, students enrolled in the course ‘Joining Lightweight Structures’ had the opportunity to visit Heggemann AG in Büren as part of an excursion. After an introduction by Dr Alexander Reitz, they were given fascinating insights into the company's manufacturing processes and development departments.

Of particular interest was a current project in the field of aircraft construction: Heggemann is currently using the additive manufacturing process WAAM (Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing) to produce complex metal components efficiently and in a resource-saving manner. The company's involvement in the series production of the landing gear for the new Dornier 328eco also demonstrates how actively it is currently working on pioneering aviation solutions.

Many thanks to Heggemann for the interesting insights and the excellent support on site!
