On 22 January 2020, two basic chemistry courses of the Pelizaeus-Gymnasium Paderborn visited Kunststofftechnik Paderborn as part of a student internship. So far, the sixth formers had only become acquainted with the theoretical basics of polymers and smaller experiments in the test tube. Now they were able to experience a wide variety of plastics technology processes on a larger scale. In the Studentlab3D, there were insights into 3D printing technology, in which, for example, geometries are created using the FDM process via a plastic strand laid down in layers. Two other manufacturing processes were presented at the injection moulding machine and the blown film line. Finally, the mechanical properties of a blown film were examined in a tensile test in the test laboratory.
We would like to thank the students of the Pelizaeus-Gymnasium for the interesting discussions and hope to be able to welcome some of them as students at Kunststofftechnik Paderborn in the next few years.
