Jowat SE awards Adhesives Research Prize 2020

 |  Preise/Auszeichnungen

With the Jowat Adhesive Research Award, the Detmold-based adhesive manufacturer honours outstanding solutions and approaches in the field of adhesive technology every two years. This year, the coveted prize goes to Dr Paulina Sierak. She was able to convince the jury with her dissertation on the topic of "Qualification of intelligent data analyses in automated adhesive bonding technology".

The aim of Dr Sierak's research work was to investigate and evaluate the potential of intelligent data analysis methods for use in automotive series processes. The focus was on three areas: a process-accompanying prognosis of the bonding quality as well as the possible process optimisation through the earliest possible identification of error causes, an adjustment of process parameters and a predictable maintenance of relevant plant technology.

The jury assessed Dr Sierak's work as a substantial scientific gain in knowledge with a high practical relevance. According to the jury's assessment, the knowledge gained on the use of modern machine learning and artificial intelligence methods in adhesive bonding production processes opens up new possibilities for process optimisation and sustainable quality assurance.

After graduating from high school in Augsburg, the award winner studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, specialising in aeronautical engineering and fibre composite technology. At the University of Valencia in Spain, she broadened her spectrum in the degree programme "European Industrial Management". Dr Sierak completed both her diploma thesis and her doctoral dissertation while working at BMW AG in Munich, where she is now a specialist team leader responsible for assembly process planning. Her doctorate was supervised by the Chair of Materials and Joining Technology at the University of Paderborn under Professor Dr Gerson Meschut and the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
