As part of the 79th IIW Annual Assembly, which took place from 12 to 17 July 2026 at the Salzburg Congress in Salzburg, Austria, the Department of Kunststofftechnik Paderborn (KTP) at Paderborn University took the opportunity to engage in professional dialogue with the Chair of Plastics Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology within Commission XVI.
The focus was on the latest research findings and discussions regarding past, ongoing and future research projects. The specialist presentations given by the participating institutions within Commission XVI provided a special highlight.
Chemnitz University of Technology presented a paper on the topic‘
: “Thermo-Rheological Effects in Heat Tool Butt Welding of Thick-Walled Polyethylene: Experimental and Numerical Insights”’.
The Paderborn University (KTP) was represented with two papers:
‘Direct Screw Connections in Injection-Moulded Thermosets: Influence of Screw-In Parameters on Fatigue Strength’ and
‘Influence of Infrared Heating Control on the Stamp Riveting of Continuous Fibre-Reinforced Thermoplastics on Metal Sheets’.
In addition to the technical presentations, existing collaborations were reviewed and prospects for future joint research projects were discussed. The personal exchanges taking place within the framework of the IIW thus make an important contribution to further strengthening scientific cooperation between Paderborn University and Chemnitz University of Technology.
Special thanks go to the DVS and the Young Professionals Programme, whose support made participation and this valuable international exchange possible.
