Paderborn University is a modern, public and open campus university. Approximately 20,000 students (2015) study in around 60 degree programmes at five faculties, including almost 10% international students and exchange students from more than 160 international partner universities.
The university's mission statement is the"University of the Information Society". The mission statement includes internationality and artistic presence, as the information and knowledge society has global dimensions and artistic activity is a counterpoint in a more intellectual world.

The city of Paderborn
The university city of Paderborn is located in the heart of Germany. In just 3 hours by train or plane you can reach a number of important European capitals. In addition, many fascinating German cities such as Berlin and Hamburg offer excellent opportunities for day trips. With over 1200 years of history, Paderborn offers a multitude of attractions, with 20 sights awaiting you in the city centre alone. The historic town hall and the monumental cathedral from the 13th century are just a few of them. Paderborn combines history and modernity as well as tradition and technology. Thanks to the computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf, the IT sector in Paderborn grew at an above-average rate. The city has one of the highest IT densities in Germany and a large proportion of these companies are spin-offs from Paderborn University.
Location
Paderborn is located in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia. The most important German cities and travel destinations (Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Hanover, Frankfurt, the Rhine region) can be reached within two to three hours by car or train. More distant destinations and other European countries and capitals can easily be reached by train or by plane via Paderborn International Airport.
