This year, the destination of the KTP's annual Whitsun excursion was the beautiful city of Cologne on the Rhine. KTP students and employees were given the opportunity to gain an insight into the day-to-day work of plastics engineers in companies from various industries. The excursion started on Tuesday morning at Paderborn University and on the way to Cologne, the students visited the company Funke Kunststoffe in Hamm to learn about the challenges involved in manufacturing plastic products for transporting waste water. On Wednesday, the excursion then started in Cologne and took the participants to the neighbouring town of Leverkusen to the company Covestro. Once there, the participants were able to find out about the large test facilities at the PC and PUR foaming technology centre. On Thursday, the Reifenhäuser company in Troisdorf was the first destination for the day. On site, the students and employees learnt about the assembly of the single-screw extruder systems as well as the technical centre systems for flat and blown film production. This was immediately followed by a visit to Kautex Textron in Bonn, where the challenges faced by plastics engineers in the automotive supply industry were explained in detail. In addition to all the company visits, the excursion was rounded off with a cosy dinner in Cologne.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the participating companies and employees once again for the insights they provided during the company tours.
